Urethritis, an inflammation of the urethra with or without discharge, is most commonly caused by chlamydia or gonorrhea, but can also be caused by Trichomonas vaginalis. Urethritis as a result of chlamydia tends to be more subtle in presentation than gonococcal urethritis (gonorrhea).
